Ceramics
I fell in love with ceramics after taking a beginner wheel throwing class in January of 2015. Most of the work I currently produce professionally lives in the digital realm and I found throwing was the perfect hobby as it allows me to make tangible, functional art.
My background in graphic design combined with the influence of my architect boyfriend has given me an appreciation for the design of every day objects. I’m a firm believer in form following function and love testing each of my products to figure out what shapes make the best handles and spouts. As a result my designs are continually evolving as I make slight tweaks or modifications after using my products in my own home.
Favorite Podcasts
I often get asked what my favorite podcasts and/or episodes are or where to get started. I decided to create album art for a few that hold a special place in my heart as a distraction during the spring of 2020.
There is a lot to love about Invisibilia — they have smart, funny, female hosts and intriguing topics. Season 4 is airing now and but I think this episode from their first season is what really got me hooked on this podcast. It’s a story about the importance of people believing in you from a young age and how that affects who you become later in life. Link to this episode in my profile. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have parents who’ve always encouraged me and my passions, particularly my love of art. I know their support is the driving factor in why I’ve been able to have a successful career in the design field. So for this episode, I’m sharing a 📷 me at my first art show.
The Memory Palace has so many incredible episodes, it’s hard to know which to feature first. Nate DiMeo’s style of storytelling is so moving, he has a unique way of painting pictures with his words. This episode from last year, one of balance between humans and nature, felt particularly relevant today as we see fewer cars on the road and factories temporarily shuttering. 📷from the type tray I had on display at my old apartment in Ferndale.
Lea Thau is an incredible storyteller and her podcast Strangers has long been a favorite. This episode was one of the first I heard on the Strangers podcast and still one of my favorites. It's a story about a waitress, her grandfather who loved airplanes and the stranger that made his dream of flying in P 51 Mustang come to life. 📷 of me and my plane-loving grandpa, who took me and my brother up in his 4-seater plane when we were kids.

If you know me well, or perhaps even just a bit, you probably know that I love podcasts and listen to quite a few regularly. Every now and then an episode will really stand out for me and I find myself returning to it over and over again. I've never been great about documenting my favorite episodes, so thought I would use some of this time in quarantine to listen to my favorite episodes again. Radiolab has long been a favorite podcast of mine, their team is so good at telling stories I find completely fascinating. According to Roger, I reference this particular episode in roughly 30% of the conversations I have. It profoundly changed the way I view nature and think the lessons of this episode, how connected we all are and the importance of looking out for a greater good, feel even more relevant today than they did when I first heard this episode in 2016. Apparently 2016 was a good year for podcasts. There are many episodes of Heavyweight that stick out in my mind but I think my very favorite is still the first one. 📷This episode is about the relationship between two brothers so I thought I’d share a picture of me and my brother.
Ira described this episode as a “real-life Hardy Boys mystery”, that nostalgia is perhaps one of the reasons it still remains a favorite all these years later. My dad used to read his old copies of Hardy Boys stories to my brother and me before bed as kids. It also perfectly conveys the feeling of going through someone’s old, discarded things — the sense of mystery, wonder, and sadness that accompanies abandoned objects. Reply All may say it's a show about the internet but in reality I think it's a show about people who happen to learn weird things or find themselves in odd circumstances because of the internet. Feral Hogs and the havoc they are wreaking on rural America is one of those things. Seriously, it's a huge problem! And one I had NO idea about until hearing this episode.

My best friend’s mother taught me how to weave with beads in elementary school. In the spring of 2020 when I found myself unable to safely go into the clay studio, I took it up again. It’s the perfect craft to do from the couch while watching Netflix or listening to a podcast.
